This Month’s Spotlight: Kayla Dain

On Saturday mornings for the past four years, Kayla Dain, a recent nursing grad, has chosen to spend her time as a dedicated volunteer at the Friendship Inn, bringing with her a warm smile, a listening ear, and a deep commitment to community.

Kayla first began volunteering during the early days of the pandemic. “I wanted to do something meaningful, and I saw there was a huge need at the Inn,” she shares. With a passion for food security and current work in a crisis agency, she knew this was another place where she could make a real difference.

What started as a way to give back quickly became something much more—a weekly tradition filled with connection, consistency, and care. “I always volunteer on Saturdays, and over time, an amazing group of volunteers has formed. I see them regularly. The guests? They’ll give you life updates. It’s so meaningful.”

What keeps Kayla coming back, week after week, is the sense of connection she feels with the guests. Their gratitude isn’t about praise. It’s a reflection of the trust and humanity they share in those moments. ‘It’s in their smiles, in the conversations… you can feel that what we’re doing matters,’ she says.”

Kayla hopes her journey will inspire others to take that first step and show up for their community. “There is something so beautiful about giving your time.”

Thank you, Kayla, for being a steady, compassionate presence at the Inn. Your dedication helps nourish not just bodies, but hearts!

Helping hands make every meal happen here at the Inn. Whether you’re helping with food prep or delivering meal trays, we rely on great people for volunteer power.
