Ashala Jacobson

Ashala Jacobson has been a member of the Board of the Friendship Inn for nearly four years and was appointed Chair in Fall 2023. In this role, Ashala brings leadership to ensure the organization’s strategic oversight and governance practices are well managed.

When asked what motivated her to start volunteering, Ashala shared, “I’ve always felt a deep compassion for those who are disadvantaged. When my kids were older and I finally had more time, I decided it was the right moment to get more involved in my community.” Her desire to help those facing adversity is at the heart of her volunteering journey, and her leadership role enables her to create lasting change.

Additionally, as Chair of the Board, Ashala supports its leadership team. “I feel honoured to bring my skills in board governance to the table,” Ashala explained. “The management team is doing an amazing job, so my role is really to ensure they have the support they need to continue their vital work and meet future challenges. It’s inspiring to be part of a group that’s so passionate about their work and the guests they serve.”

Ashala’s commitment to building a better community and standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves shines through in her work. “The way society treats its most vulnerable is a reflection of its true success,” she said. “I feel that my privilege in life calls me to give back. The Friendship Inn does so much good, and I’m honoured to be part of their mission.”

Ashala continues to be a powerful force for positive change, leading by example and inspiring others to take action. Her dedication to the Friendship Inn’s mission and her tireless work to improve the lives of those in need reflect the true spirit of volunteerism and leadership.
