That’s right! It’s turkey season once again and we are so grateful to our generous donors, volunteers and supporters who come together and help the Inn fulfill our Mission of offering hot, nutritious meals to neighbours in need, 365 days of the year. Thank-you!
Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, and at the Friendship Inn we celebrate with the large family of guests who eat meals together in our dining room. On Thanksgiving Monday we serve a traditional turkey meal at lunchtime, from 11:45am-1:30pm. Everyone is welcome to come to eat turkey together.
In support of the Thanksgiving meal, we are looking for donationsof whole turkeys, bone in ham, carrots, gravy (dry mix or canned) and individual packets of butter (a treat on the dinner rolls). Donations can be dropped off at the Inn 7 days/week 7:00am-2:30pm. Please come to the kitchen door off our parking lot on the west side of our building.
Volunteersto serve the Thanksgiving meal are also needed. There are some slots left to come from 10:45-1:45 on Monday, Oct 12 to help out. We also need some extra hands in the kitchen on Sunday, Oct 11 to help prepare the food for the feast on Monday. Any amount of time between 7am and 3pm on Sunday, Oct 11 would be helpful. To sign up for either volunteer opportunity, contact Amy, the volunteer coordinator at the Inn. Call or email Amy 306-242-5122, email@example.com
Update: Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who made our Thanksgiving turkey meal possible! We served 1212 meals on Thanksgiving Monday, with some turkey to spare for leftover the following week – who doesn’t love turkey leftovers made into soups and stews!
Fred Monchuk has been donating to the Friendship Inn for years. He knows that to feed burgers to our guests for a BBQ takes a lot of beef. Rather than buy frozen burgers from the store, Fred donated a whole cow to the Inn in June. He arranged for the butchering and delivered the ground beef to the Inn. Fred is pictured above with Inn cook, Delphine, when he delivered the beef. Only some of the hundreds of pounds of beef are in the photo. Besides the ground beef, Fred also brought the bones for the Inn to use for soup. This beef will go a long way, beyond one BBQ to soup, chili and many other meals, too.
The Inn is grateful for all our food donations. We appreciate how people give the food they can in creative ways. From garden vegetables, to day old bread, to left overs from large functions to syrup and jam that didn’t set properly. We can use most food we are offered, but if you have any questions, call us and the kitchen can answer your questions. Donations can be dropped off at the Inn 7 days/week from 7am-2:30pm. Come to the kitchen door off our parking lot.
Thank you to all the Fill the Plate Donors! We cannot do the work we do without such great supporters. We had daily sponsors for every day in December 2014 as well as many more donors in the Fill the Plate Campaign. We are grateful for every gift, large or small! We also had many volunteers come to support us throughout December, including some fantastic volunteers on Christmas Day. Many of the daily sponsors supported the Friendship Inn with volunteers in addition to sponsorship.
